37 weeks pregnant

I had my 37 week appointment a couple days ago. Only two-and-a-half weeks left! According to my midwife I am already 70% effaced and almost 3cm dialated. Whew. I guess all those braxton-hicks contractions have been making some progress after all. Not much more left on my preparation to-do list, except re-pack the hospital overnight bag.

Knowing this is our last baby, I’ve been wondering if I should do more in the next couple weeks to record what pregnancy has been like for me. I think I’ve said before that I’m not the kind of mother who relishes being pregnant, but I do appreciate how special and miraculous it is. Maybe I’ll want to look back someday and reminisce. Belly casts are not for me (where do women put these?), but I’m thinking a few more photos and journal entries might be in order.

If/when you were pregnant, did you do anything in particular to commemorate this special time? Was there anything you wish you had done before you gave birth?

Hooray for halfway!

20 weeks pregnant today and only 20 weeks to go! Check out that belly self-portrait taken last weekend (19wks). Pretty big, right? From the look (and feel) of it, you might even think I was further along, especially compared to this photo of my 20-week belly when I was pregnant with Chloe.

One thing my midwife noticed at my exam was that I’d gained a noticeable amount of weight since my previous appointment. Yep, it seems I am becoming all belly with a side of extra butt thrown in. And a little in the face, too, I think. She kindly explained it away as “likely to do with the holidays,” but I can’t say that is for sure. When I was pregnant with Chloe I gained a whopping 40lbs. I think it took me almost 6 months to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight. This time I was hoping to gain only a healthy 30-35lbs. Perhaps with spring and summer coming, I’ll be able to keep to that goal.

Earlier this week we also had our regular ultrasound. David got off work early, and he and Chloe were both there. Chloe is too young to really get what is going on, but I like that she participate. So far everything seems okay. We got another confirmation that it is a boy, and I’ve been feeling him move around in there for weeks now. Soon David and Chloe will be able to feel it, too.

Self-portrait plus, week 22

I am getting so behind on these self-portraits! I’m wondering if I’m even going to make a year of them as I had planned. However, I do have ones for the past couple weeks, I just need to find time to post them once I return.

Meanwhile, this is a self-portrait that includes the bride (second from left) and bridesmaids during the bachelorette belly dancing lesson. The instructor, Dahlia, is in the center. This was great fun, and I’ll just say that it isn’t as easy as it looks!

Self-portrait plus, week 14

Am I too old to do cartwheels? My wrists think so. It isn’t like it used to be, that’s for sure. Back in the day, it was effortless. Now I just end up feeling dizzy. I better get practicing if I want to be the one to teach Chloe how it’s done. 🙂

As part of my goals for 2010, I am posting a weekly self-portrait “plus.” See the entire set here.

Self-portrait-plus, week 9

Chloe and I went to the zoo twice this past week. Now that we have an annual pass and can pop in anytime, I usually just take her to the animals that she can see the best. We like the Northwest exhibit (where I can push the stroller right up to the glass fish wall), the petting barn, the elephants, sea lions, polar bears, and the lorikeets.

The lorikeets are particularly fascinating for Chloe, not only because they are brightly colored, but also because there is no barrier between you and them. An added bonus is the option to purchase a tiny cup of “nectar” and they will land on you. The first time I tried this, years ago, I got bird poop on the brand new jacket I was wearing. I haven’t seen that happen since, so maybe it was just me.

Self-portrait plus, week 8

Okay, so this is a week late. Last week I never got around to self-portrait taking and it turns out that this is the only photo I have of myself, taken by chance. Chloe woke up with an awful rash that Monday morning that kept spreading until I finally called the doctor’s office. She called it hives, and it is unknown what set it off. I snapped this photo with my p&s while waiting to be seen, just to have a visual record. I purposefully washed out the color in this version so that the rash isn’t as red and angry-looking as it actually was. Poor Chloe. Then in the middle of the week, just as the rash was receeding she caught a nasty cold, her eyes swollen and her little nose dripping like a faucet into the weekend. She seems to be getting better, though, so I hope to plan a better self-portrait for this coming week.

Flickr Tag

I was Flickr tagged by Minnesota:Madre today. Well, actually, I was tagged days ago, but I just noticed it today.

The note said to take a picture of myself and post it on Flickr within 5 minutes of reading. I was like what?! Jeez. 5 minutes? Could I do it? Luckily my camera battery was resting fully-charged in its charger, but unluckily, I hadn’t showered this morning and had bed-head hair on the one side (thus the profile view). I finger combed the “good” side, did a quick swipe with the lip gloss sitting on my desk and leaned sideways against the backrest of my chair. A decent shot, but I wish I hadn’t cut off my chin. I wasn’t counting the minutes, but if I was a tad late it was because I had a lot of photos on my memory card to download (made worse because I have a bad habit of forgetting to erase previously downloaded stuff, grrr). Will be sharing some of those pics soon!
